Not long after the news of Prince’s death circulated the globe, First Avenue announced that it would host an all-night dance party Thursday night.

Before the dance party, however, a block party — also impromptu — was set up for outside First Avenue. Artists including Chastity Brown, P.O.S. and Lizzo performed Prince music to massive a crowd.

After the block party, the crowd moved into First Avenue around 11:30 p.m. and the festivities lasted all night long.

Now, more all-night parties are planned for 1:30 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. There is no cover charged, but the events will be limited to those age 18 and older.

Prince is largely credited with helping the music venue gain the prominence it holds today — filming a large portion of his classic movie “Purple Rain” there, and recording several songs on the accompanying album at the venue with a live audience.
