Talking Points: What Led To Prince's Death?

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- There remain many questions and unconfirmed reports about what led to Prince's death.

For friends and those who worked with him, the report that drugs may have been a factor in his recent health problems is difficult to understand.

The gossip website TMZ reports that Prince's plane was forced to make an emergency landing on April 15 at an Illinois airport because the singer had overdosed on Percocet.

An airport manager told WCCO-TV that the plane made the emergency landing because a passenger was "unresponsive."

At the time, Prince's publicist said he was treated at a hospital for "dehydration."

Hours later the flight continued to the Twin Cities.

The next day, Prince would hold one of his famous dance parties and told fans not to waste prayers on him.

Four days later, he was dead.

Many of Prince's longtime friends and colleagues say the singer was adamantly against the use of drugs and alcohol.

Gary Hines, the musical director of Sounds of Blackness, knew Prince for more than 40 years.

"At Paisley Park...you could not even have meat in the building, no smoking, no drinking, no drugs of any kind," Hines said on WCCO Sunday Morning. "For me, [the idea of him using drugs] is not reality, as far as Prince goes."

Prince's cause of death is still unknown.

The medical examiner has said because of toxicology and other tests, as well as an investigation of Prince' health records, an answer could take weeks.
