Gabby Giffords Returns To MN Calling For Gun Control

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Former Arizona Congresswoman Gabby Giffords is stopping in Minnesota to continue pushing for stronger gun control measures.

Giffords and her husband, Mark Kelly, have focused on reducing gun violence since Giffords was gravely injured by a gunman at a public event in 2011. Six people died and 12 others were injured in the attack.

She came to St. Paul Tuesday for a news conference and a private meeting with Gov. Mark Dayton. It's just her latest stop in Minnesota as her organization targets the state in its efforts to reduce gun violence.

Proposals to increase background checks have faced strong resistance at the Legislature this year. Giffords says it will take courage to stop gun violence.
