Up To 40 Million More Takata Airbags Need To Be Fixed

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The largest recall in American history just got bigger.

Federal regulators announced Wednesday that 35 to 40 million more Takata airbag inflators need to be fixed.

The announcement brings the total number of faulty airbags in the U.S. to upwards of 69 million.

The defective devices can explode, sending shrapnel into drivers.

Takata air bags are blamed for at least 10 deaths and 139 injuries, including a Minnesota woman who was blinded in a crash.
