Xcel Working To Prevent Power Outages In N.D.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Xcel Energy says it's working to prevent power outages that have affected Fargo in recent weeks.
Xcel's North Dakota manager Mark Nisbet told the Public Service Commission on Thursday that the company is stepping up efforts to replace power lines and trim trees to keep branches from affecting lines.
Xcel has an agreement with North Dakota regulators that requires the Minneapolis-based utility to credit customers who have four or more outages of more than five minutes in duration. The company has given more than $392,000 in credits to about 7,800 customers since the agreement was done in 2012.
Xcel serves more than 94,000 electric customers in Fargo, West Fargo, Grand Forks, Minot and a number of smaller communities. It has utility operations in eight states.
