Victim, Suspect Identified In Fatal Blaine Hit-&-Run

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A community came together tonight to remember a new neighbor struck and killed by a suspected drunk driver. Dani Morazan Aguilar was standing by his mailbox when investigators say a 27-year-old with a lengthy criminal record jumped a curb and struck him.

Neighbors have long complained about the dangers of the twisting Blaine street. Prosecutors charged 27-year-old Adam Rodman with vehicular homicide and driving under the influence.

Surrounded by neighbors who are no longer strangers.

"I am so sorry my husband did not get to know you guys," Noy Khomsana said.

Noy found the strength of talk about her husband Dani. Described as a hard-worker, the two moved into their first home a month ago.

"He just went to get mail. Anybody goes to get mail," Khomsana said.

Police believe Rodman drove his car into a neighborhood mail box Thursday night, then jumped a curb going at least 60 mph, and struck the 39-year-old. When police found Rodman, he was passed out at home, with vomit on the bed and floor. They are details that only add more outrage to a community feeling intense grief.

"He said maybe a speed bump will slow down the traffic. And I said, 'oh the city is not going to do it,' and he said like this, 'maybe somebody die and they will do it,' My husband, my Dani is gone, he's not coming back. Please do something for the sake of the children," Khomsana said.

People living along 119th Avenue in Blaine have complained about the heavy traffic and speeding for years.

"We've been saying for a long time it's almost like the Blaine International Speedway," neighbor Kimberly Bauman said.

Police blocked the thoroughfare to traffic so the neighborhood could safely come together to embrace the family, and to demand change.

"It's in his honor now. He's going to save lives. He's going to help protect our families and our kids," neighbor Tim Sanders said.

Ideas include: adding a stop sign, flashing speed limit signs or speed bumps.

The family had planned to have a housewarming party this weekend. Neighbors signed up to prepare meals, and to help out with whatever is needed.

This GoFundMe page has been set up so others can contribute.
