Charges Expected Against Eden Prairie Man Accused Of Fatally Stabbing Wife

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (WCCO) -- Charges are expected Tuesday against an Eden Prairie man who is accused of stabbing his pregnant wife to death.

23-year-old Lyuba Savenok was stabbed multiple times inside her Eden Prairie home Saturday morning.

Police say her husband, 30-year-old Yeveginy Savenok, left the home with their two children and later turned himself in.

People who live near the Savenoks say they kept pretty much to themselves. Neighbors say family members would visit the couple often.

One man told WCCO he happened to be working on the house across the street when he heard a scream for help.

"I saw a teen run out of her house with no shoes on, and it's cold," said Johnnie Nguyen.

Nguyen says he never saw his neighbor's sister so upset, so he walked towards her to see what was wrong.

"She just say 'My brother in law is trying to kill me,' and she said 'Help my sister, she's pregnant,'" he said.

Nguyen says at that moment he made eye contact with the man who was inside.

"When she's standing here with me, he's just walking right out, very normal. He backing out very slowly, not in a rush," Nguyen said.

Nguyen says two children were inside the SUV when it pulled off. He says he and the sister tried to get in the house but the doors were locked.

Nguyen says he made the sister stay behind as he walked to the back door to get a look inside.

"I saw her laying there and no breathing," he said.

Lyuba Savenok died later at Hennepin County Medical Center. Her husband, Yeveginy Savenok, turned himself into St. Paul police hours later.

According to court documents, Yeveginy was scheduled to go to trial for a previous domestic assault next week. Those court documents say Lyuba filed an order of protection in Illinois back in 2014.

She moved to Eden Prairie in 2015 and allowed her husband to move in.

She reported verbal and physical abuse after that.

Yeveginy violated the order of protection during a custody exchange where court document say he was verbally abusive.

Yeveginy is currently inside the Hennepin County jail held on two counts of suspicion of murder.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help with funeral costs and to support the couple's two children.
