4 Minnesota Beers Take Home Titles At World Beer Cup

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Out of 6,600 entries, four Minnesota beers have been named among the best in the world. They won the titles as part of 2016 World Beer Cup in Philadelphia.

August Schell Brewing Company won silver for its Vienna-style lager called "Firebrick." The New Ulm-based brewery says it has a "subtle maltiness combined with a hint of hoppy taste." That beer won the gold in 2014, too.

Bauhaus Brew Labs in Northeast Minneapolis won the bronze for its international-style lager "Wonderstuff." The beer is available on tap and in cans. It's described as a "neü Bohemian Pilsner" with a "powerful, citrus hop twist."

Insight Brewing's "Sunken City" won the Bronze for Belgain-Style Fruit Beer. The brew is "fruity and light" and has the herbal characters of sauvigon blanc grapes. It's also available in cans or on tap at the Minneapolis brewery.

You'll have to drive a few hours north of the Twin Cities to try Bemidji Brewing's German Blonde. It won the Bronze in the Golden Ale category. The brewery says it's light, crisp, and refreshing. But you'll have to make the trip to try it -- it's only available on draft.
