Charges: Deputy Shot Cabin Because Of Hunting Dispute

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A cabin shooting involving a Roseau County sheriff's deputy was apparently the result of a dispute over hunting on private land, according to the criminal complaint.

Joshua McGurran Olson, 34, is charged with damage to property and falsely reporting a crime for firing several rounds into Daryl Dahl's cabin. Dahl is a Roseau citizen.

The complaint states Dahl reported the incident to law enforcement and told them he suspected Olson, because they had a disagreement when Olson's hunting party trespassed on Dahl's property last year.

Police questioned Olson and he admitted to shooting the cabin, according to the complaint. He also admitted to destroying his county issued firearm, which was used in the shooting, in an outdoor wood stove.

Olson also made a false claim that a rifle was stolen from his home. He later rescinded this claim and stated he found his rifle.

Olson is on administrative leave and is expected in court on June 9.
