Sheriff: Garbage Truck Knocks Down Power Lines, Catches Fire

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Kandiyohi County residents were evacuated from their homes after a sanitation truck overturned onto a high voltage power pole Monday.

According to the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office, a commercial sanitation truck knocked down high voltage lines on the 6700 block of 140th Avenue NE in Spicer around 4 p.m. The vehicle then caught fire.

The driver exited the vehicle and was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution, but no homes were damaged.

The crash is being investigated by the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office.
