Man Pleads Guilty To Murder In Shooting Outside Store

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 31-year-old man pleaded guilty to murder charges Tuesday in a July 2015 fatal shooting and is expected to face up to 10 years in prison.

Brandon Benjamin Broszko pleaded guilty to second-degree unintentional murder in the July, 10, 2015, shooting death of 24-year-old Givontae Walker.

According to charges, the Minneapolis Police Department responded to a shooting at about 9:32 p.m. that night at a store on the 3500 block of Lyndale Avenue N. When officers arrived, they found that Walker had been shot.

Broszko appeared in court Monday and confirmed what officers saw on store surveillance footage. Walker was already in the store when two men walked in, one of which was later identified as Broszko. Authorities learned that the man with Broszko had previously robbed Walker. After seeing the man, Walker called family members and friends to the store.

Surveillance video shows Broszko and his companion leaving the store, and Walker knocking the companion to the ground. Broszko is then seen walking away from the store down the sidewalk and grabbing something out of his pants. In the process, he dropped two items he got from the store. Broszko is then seen taking out a gun and shooting in the direction of Walker.

Broszko is then seen picking up the items he dropped and fleeing the scene. Walker ran the opposite direction before collapsing.

Broszko will be sentenced June 23.
