Get Movin' Monday: What To Buy In July

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- This week we say so long to June and hello to the month of July.

It's a month retailers start to clear inventory, so it's a great time to stock up on summer staples.

Nancy Ngo from the Pioneer Press Gets Us Movin' this Monday with July's best bargains.

GRILLS
The Fourth of July is one of the biggest grilling days of the year. Leading up to the day, you'll see prices at some of their highest. But after the Fourth holiday, stores don't want to keep grills around, particularly cheaper models. You'll see prices for grills drop after that day of fireworks, and continuing to decline through August. Look for deals on grills -- not to mention grilling accessories -- by as much as 50 percent off.  The nice thing is there's still plenty of time left in the barbecuing season.

SWIMWEAR
There's still plenty of time to hit the beach. But many people already are  stocked up on their beachwear for the season. What happens in July is, retailers start wanting to get rid of swimwear inventory to make way for fall items. To make things move along faster,  you'll see children's, men's and women's swimsuits drop in prices across the board, with mark downs starting at 25 percent to as much as 80 percent.

AIR CONDITIONERS
If history repeats itself, we'll see a blast in steep discounts when it comes to air conditioners starting in July. We're talking 20 percent drops in prices.

SELECT FURNITURE
At least twice a year, stores introduce new furniture models. One of those times is coming up in August when new shipments start coming in. To make room on the showroom floor, we'll see retailers offer big clearance sales in July in order to get read if the old stock -- especially items that don't sell well year round -- and bring in the new.

You just have to be strategic and know the best items to buy. While it's not the month for things like mattresses and office furniture, it is a great time to buy items such as sectionals and couches. It's also a great time for deals on outdoor furniture and accessories, where you can nab things like patio chairs and tables with markdowns as much as 50 percent off. Tip: Couple sales with coupon codes, and we're looking at deals by as much as 70 percent off.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL
Remember when back-to-school used to be in August leading up to Labor Day weekend? Well not anymore. A trend in recent years is for retailers to start back-to-school sales early. So July is a time when you'll start to see specials on everything from jeans to backpacks to lunch boxes and writing supplies. It's also a good way to avoid the back-to-school shopping frenzy by picking up back-to-school items at a more leisurely pace.

Jeans especially will be deeply discounted. It's not only a popular back-to-school item, but it's also so hot out that it's not a common item with shoppers this time of year. Marks downs by as much as 50 percent are a way for retailers to offer incentive for you to shop with them in July.
