2 Arrested After Purchase Meetup Turned Into Armed Robbery

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Police in northern Minnesota say they arrested two men Sunday night after they allegedly robbed a group of people with whom they'd set up an exchange online.

The robbery happened around 9 p.m. near the Cromwell Pavilion in Cromwell, the Carlton County Sheriff's Office said.

The victims told police they were robbed at gunpoint by two people with whom they made arrangements online to meet and complete a purchase.

The victims gave officers a description of the suspects and their car.

Shortly after, police in Duluth, which is about an hour's drive west of Cromwell, arrested the suspects.

The sheriff's office identified the suspects as 19-year-old Skyler Hakala, of Cromwell, and 20-year-old Matthew Benson, of Duluth.

Both are being held in the county jail pending formal charges.
