The shooting of Philando Castile took place right across from a residential area.

Around 9 p.m., Castile, his girlfriend, Diamond Reynolds, and Reynold’s 4-year-old daughter were driving when they were pulled over. In a Facebook Live video posted by Reynolds, from the account of Lavisha Reynolds, she said police pulled them over due to a broken headlight.

Several witnesses saw the aftermath, including Falcon Heights resident Katherine Bleth.

“There were cops everywhere,” Bleth said Thursday.

Bleth had just arrived home Wednesday night when she says at around 9:10 p.m., she saw several officers across the street on Larpenteur Avenue huddling around a man lying down. She would later find out the man was Philando Castile.

“He was not moving,” Bleth said. “He was just on the ground.”

A video posted to Twitter by Bleth shows officers administering CPR to Castile.

She stood along with other bystanders trying to figure out what was going on. She took out her phone and hit record. The video was posted around 11:06 p.m.

“It was just so hard for me to remember details. That’s why I took videos of it,” Bleth said.

She took a 10 second video of a police officer giving Castile CPR. Bleth said she thought the CPR went on for several minutes. She never saw Castile move.

“I can’t even tell you how long it just seemed like a long time until an ambulance showed up and they quickly got him in there,” Bleth said.

Bleth posted the video to Twitter, which has since been shared hundreds of times. She also heard a woman, she now believes was Diamond Reynolds, in a squad car.

“I could hear her crying and I believe a family member showed up,” Bleth said. “I remember hearing things like “Why did you kill my only brother.'”

Bleth said her community is normally “very quiet.” She slept at a friend’s house Wednesday night, away from the scene.

“Everyone was just shaken up,” she said.

Reynold’s Facebook Live video shows Castile injured, while Reynolds narrates that Castile had been reaching for his license and registration. Reynolds also said Castile told police he was armed but had a permit to carry. According to the video, this is when the officer shot him several times.
