Crystal Squad Car Hit By Truck While Reporting To Robbery

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Crystal police officer is in stable condition after his squad car collided with a box truck early Thursday morning.

Police say the officer was en route at about 5:20 a.m. to provide backup for a fellow officer, who was struggling with a robbery suspect in the parking lot of Cub Foods on the 5300 block of 36th Avenue.

The officer was driving eastbound on 36th Avenue with his lights and sirens on when he was hit by a truck exiting Highway 100.

The truck driver was not injured and told police that he did not see the lights or hear the sirens from the squad.

The officer who was at Cub Foods was called to the store on a report of a theft in progress. When the officer arrived, employees pointed out the suspect in the parking lot, who was trying to flee the scene.

Police say the suspect, Edward Frazier, first gave the officer a false name and date of birth to try to conceal the fact that there was an arrest warrant out for him for felony burglary.

The officer at the scene says Frazier repeatedly resisted arrest, but was eventually taken into custody.
