Police: Toddler Critical After Falling From 4th Story Apt. Window

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 3-year-old Columbia Heights boy is in critical condition after falling from a four-story window in Rochester Monday evening.

According to CBS affiliate KIMT in Iowa, Rochester police say officers were called to an apartment building located on the 900 block of 11th Avenue Northwest at 9:35 p.m. By the time they arrived, police say the child was responsive.

Police say a 21-year-old woman was in a spare bedroom with the victim, who was sitting on a bed that is located against a wall next to a window, when he pushed on the screen, lost balance, fell back on the bed and slipped out of the window.

The boy hit a grassy area below. He was taken to St. Mary's Hospital where he's in critical condition.

Police say that social services were alerted following protocol, but that it is not a criminal investigation.
