'Suspicious Device' Cleared From Richfield Apartment
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A Richfield apartment building was declared safe after a "suspicious device" was found in a vacant apartment unit Thursday.
According to the Richfield Police Department, around 10 a.m. dispatchers received a call of a suspicious item in an apartment on the 7600 block of Cedar Avenue.
The caller reported that a cleaning crew noticed a "suspicious device" when they were removing items from a vacant unit.
Upon arrival, Richfield police called the Bloomington Bomb Squad as a precaution.
Shortly after 10:30 a.m. the bomb squad arrived and evacuated the apartment complex. Through further investigation, the bomb squad determined the item had only be designed to look like a bomb and was not actually an explosive.
According to police, there was concern over the item because the most recent tenant of the apartment had received a "notice to evict."
The tenant was not present at the scene.
Shortly after 11 a.m. police declared the scene clear. Investigators will continue to look into the incident.
