WCCO Saturday Morning: Links & Recap (July 30, 2016)

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Some of the best hand-made art is created here in Minnesota. All summer long you'll find festivals in communities across the state. Rachel Slavik reported live from the Loring Park Art Festival in downtown Minneapolis, a perfect place to soak up culture and sun in equal measure.

Another great option: Summer 4Play, which is called the "biggest outdoor playdate of the summer." Head to Fort Snelling Park in St. Paul to try everything from standup paddle boards to bikes. You can also explore the beautiful park trails. Plus there's a lot of music and art. The activities are set up from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.

If you want to travel outside of the Twin Cities, why not check out WCCO viewers' choice as the best state park in Minnesota: Gooseberry Falls State Park, which has a half million visitors annually.

And what goes better with a nice summer day than ice cream? If you head over to Izzy's, you'll find a brand new flavor dedicated to local musician Dessa. "Dessa's Existential Crunch" is described as a "dark brown sugar and creme fraiche ice cream, flavored with Jameson Irish whiskey and Disaronno Originale amaretto to help you contemplate the incomprehensible, all mixed with praline pecan pieces and a crunchy cashew brittle."

And summer is the season of baseball. How about relive the 25th anniversary of the greatest World Series of all time? Members of the 1991 Minnesota Twins World Championship team will be at Mall of America. Dan Gladden, Gene Larkin and Scott Leius will be in the Rotunda starting at noon. You're encouraged to arrive early and bring stuff for them to sign. There's no cost for an autograph or picture.

If you're sick of the sun, you can always duck into a theater to catch a performance of "Disney's The Lion King" in Minneapolis. It's in the last week of its five-week run at the Orpheum Theatre. On Saturday, there will be a special "sensory-friendly" performance for audience members with social and learning disabilities. Tickets are still available for the show through the box office.

Less kid-friendly, the Pina Colada. For more than 100 years The University Club's ivy-covered walls have stood on St. Paul's Cathedral Hill. On the eve of "A Night with Ipso Facto for Books for Africa," Mike Augustyniak learned a cocktail recipe in this week's Mike's Mix segment. And in this week's DeRusha Eats, Jason DeRusha headed to the Gold Nugget Tavern & Grille. Bon appetit!
