Get Movin' Monday: August Deals

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – We have flipped the calendar to August.

Although August lacks a major commercial holiday, it's still a busy month for retailers and deal hunters alike.

Bargain hunting blogger Chrysa Duran, of Thrifty Jinxy, says there are plenty of deals on summer clothing.

"All the stores, they need to move out all the summer inventory to make room for fall," she said. "So, whether it's swimsuits, flip-flops, shorts, sundresses, everything is on a really great deal right now."

Duran advises that those planning a vacation for the winter or later this summer should stock up on beach items.

Another good thing to buy in August is laptops.

"So, if a kid needs a laptop for back-to-school, or if you just need one for yourself for a home office, now is a really good time to buy a laptop," Duran said.

Then, of course, August is the month to buy school supplies.

Duran says there are big savings this month on everything students need.

"Now's the time to get pens, papers, notebooks, paperclips...because if you get them during the school year, you'll pay full price," she said.

Duran says bargain hunters should also consider using the app Flipp, which delivers all the weekly fliers into your smartphone.

"Once they're in your mobile device, you can search for a particular item you are looking," Duran said.

She says you can also search through a particular store and put everything on a shopping list. These deals can also be matched up with coupons.

"So, when you get to the checkout, you have instant savings and the best deals on everything," Duran said.

Some big ticket items to get in August are outdoor furniture, snowmobiles and snowblowers.
