Twins Looking To Be Active Before MLB Trade Deadline

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The non-waiver trade deadline for Major League Baseball is 3 p.m. local time Monday, and it appears the Minnesota Twins may not be done dealing.

The Twins, last in the American League Central Division at 40-64 and 21 games behind first-place Cleveland, are obvious sellers before the Monday afternoon deadline. The Twins are also nine games behind Kansas City for fourth in the division. They moved Eduardo Nunez to San Francisco last week for a minor league pitching prospect, and more moves could come Monday.

There will be a push to move players before the deadline as any players moved after will have to clear waivers after Aug. 1.

So who are the possible trade candidates? That depends on what the Twins are looking for in return.

Starting pitcher Ervin Santana went six innings in the Twins win Sunday, but he is also in the second year of a four-year contract and the Twins have said they want to keep him as the centerpiece of their rotation. Other pitchers that could be moved include Ricky Nolasco and relievers Brandon Kintzler and Fernando Abad.

Kurt Suzuki could also draw interest from teams looking to add a back-up catcher.
