MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A man is dead after crashing his car into a tree in the southeast metro Monday evening.

According to Cottage Grove police, a 61-year-old man driving a truck struck a tree at Grange Boulevard and Grenadier Avenue just after 7:30 p.m.

The man was taken out of the vehicle by residents who heard the crash, police said. The residents began to perform CPR. The driver was unconscious and not breathing, according to police.

The 61-year-old was taken to Regions Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.

Police do not believe alcohol or drugs were involved in the crash. They said the accident may be due to a medical event. An autopsy will determine the official cause of the crash.
