Report: 5,000 Gallons Of Sewage Spills Into Steele Co. Lake

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Clean up is underway after Steele County officials say 5,000 gallons of sewage spilled into a lake.

KIMT.com reports that Beaver Lake, which is just west of Ellendale, is closed as officials with the Department of Natural Resources and Minnesota Control Pollution Agency work to remove surface contamination.

A septic system failure is suspected in causing the spill, but officials are still investigating the cause.

Those who spend time on the lake told the news station that it now smells terrible and that toilet paper, condoms and "all sorts of stuff" are in the water.
