Get Movin' Monday: September Deals

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- September is a month with no big gift giving holiday. It's a month that also overlaps with back-to-school and Labor Day. And the weather is getting cooler out. These all come into play when it comes to deals in September.

Nancy Ngo from the Pioneer Press Gets Us Movin' with the best things to buy in September.

LAPTOPS: Not only are laptops on sale this time of the year to attract back-to-school shoppers, but we've seen those prices drop even more once school starts. If history repeats itself, expect to see an additional 8 to 25 percent off laptop deals around Labor Day and into early September.

CARS: The end of summer is when car dealerships are getting ready to introduce new inventory. As a result, they're offering incentives to get rid of their current stock. So if you're OK with buying the still shiny and new 2016s versus the 2017 versions starting to come out, you could win big. We're looking at percentage drops by as much as 18 percent on certain models.

Prices will continue to drop throughout the month. Wait until the end of September, and you can maximize even more on those deals. Wait longer, and you run the risk of having less inventory to choose from.

HOLIDAY AIRFARE: While other times of the year are better for booking that Carribbean vacation, now is the time to book that holiday trip, whether it be to visit relatives or take that Aspen ski trip.

That's because it's best to book airfare at least eight weeks before travel. After that, prices can skyrocket. So if you know you'll be traveling for Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Year's, start booking. Reserve those hotel rooms while you're at it. Prices will only keep getting steeper closer to the date.

PLANTS: Green thumb enthusiasts will want to sift through inventory at their favorite garden centers. As the weather starts getting cooler in September, less people are working on their gardens. To get shoppers through the door, retailers -- from local garden centers to big box retailers -- are offering deep discounts on plants throughout the month.

COFFEE: This might come in handy for those college students or parents waking up earlier these days to get their kids off to school. National Coffee Day is Sept. 29. Check with your favorite coffee spot, and look for deals that range from free coffee to discounts and specials on your favorite java drink.
