MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — We know that many of you like to start planning your weekend early, and WCCO’s Kim Johnson has some ideas for things the beer lover, the do-gooder, the weightlifter and the bargain shopper can all enjoy.
This weekend, celebrate Oktoberfest, Surly-style. The ninth annual SurlyFest is this Saturday at the Minneapolis brewery. There will be German-inspired food, cold pints and live music in the beer garden. SurlyFest is open to all ages and the entry is free.
Plan to shop at Mall of America? Make sure to stop by the rotunda for Canstruction. The annual canned good sculpture competition raises awareness and donations in the fight to end hunger. The displays will last through Monday, when all the cans of food will be donated to Second Harvest Heartland.
If you need a little workout inspiration, the National Alpha Showdown is the event for you. Learn about Alpha training and watch athletes compete in the showdown competition Friday and Saturday at Alpha Field in Chanhassen. There will be also be meet and greet opportunities with American Gladiator legend Laser and top CrossFit athletes.
Imagine all you can find at the Junk Bonanza Vintage Market. From Thursday through Saturday, savvy shoppers can shop for vintage finds, beautiful antiques and upcycled goods at Canterbury Park. All booths are indoors, so don’t worry about rain. General admission is $10.
