Vikings Dominating Defense A Reflection Of Coach Zimmer

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (WCCO) -- The Minnesota Vikings went back to work Tuesday with a bounce in their step and belief in their hearts.

That's what 3-0 does for you, and as WCCO's Mike Max explains, that is what a great defense does for you.

It looks simple: Play great defense and win football games. It starts with the defensive line.

"Absolute monsters. It starts with the mentality of them. They're just beasts," linebacker Eric Kendricks said. "They have the next man up mentality."

This team takes on the personality of its coach. Which means study hard, prepare well.

"We're always talking to Zim and the coaches as far as how offenses think and stuff like that so it's still a lot of learning to do but it's definitely fun," safety Harrison Smith said.

You can talk about alignments and personnel all you want, but when you talk Minnesota Vikings defense the one word that you keep hearing is trust. As in, we trust our teammates.

That's right, they've learned a system, they've played together and they've had success together.

"It's very fun. You know everybody goes out there and they do their job. That's the main thing," Danielle Hunter said. "We want to have fun, but we all trust in each other no matter who comes in there."

So it's all come together for now, and that's all that matters is right now.

"We're not going to sit here and anoint anything at three games. You know 3-0 is not our end goal, obviously our goal is to do a lot more than that," linebacker Chad Greenway said. "So we just want to continue to focus on what we're doing. Obviously it's nice to get off to a start like this, but it doesn't give you anything."
