Wild Kick Off Regular Season In St. Louis Thursday

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- On Thursday night, the Minnesota Wild will play their first game of the regular season, and there is plenty going on today to celebrate, not to mention a lot of excitement around the team.

On Thursday morning, the team held a wake-up rally outside the Xcel Energy Center. Fans were treated to free coffee, cookies, candy and a magnet schedule. For every cup of coffee handed out, Caribou will donate a cup to nurses and families at local cancer centers.

Several teams in the NHL played their first games of the season last night, including the St. Louis Blues. On Thursday night, the team will take the ice in St. Louis for the first time in the regular season with new coach Bruce Boudreau. The game begins at 7 p.m.

The Wild have all their big stars back and healthy, Zach Parise, Ryan Suter, Mikko Koivu. Parise did not end up needing surgery after a back injury at the end of last season.

Last season the team fired Mike Yeo and were led into the playoffs by interim coach John Torchetti.

They lost to the Dallas Stars in the first round.
