Franklin Ave Bridge Officially Reopens As Renovation Continues

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Franklin Avenue Bridge in Minneapolis is now open to bikers, pedestrians and drivers.

Although the Bridge officially opened last weekend during the marathon, Saturday was the ceremonial walk across the bridge. The bridge now has a brand new deck, which separates on-road bike lanes, walkways and overlook nooks.

"This is a historic bridge," Hennepin County Commissioner Peter McLaughlin said. "It was built in 1923. It was the longest concrete span bridge in the world when it was built ... and we've restored some of the historic elements."

Construction started in the Spring of 2015 and is still underway. Although there is work being done under the bridge, it is open for everyone to use.
