2 Indicted On Murder Charges In Beheading Case

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Two people accused in the beheading 20-year-old northern Minnesota man now face more serious charges.

The Itasca County Attorney's Office announced Thursday that a grand jury indicted 35-year-old Joseph Thoresen and 22-year-old Kayleene Greniger, both of Grand Rapids, on two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of second-degree murder.

The two are accused in the June death of David Haiman. According to a criminal complaint, Thoresen struck Haiman with a baseball bat, stabbed him with a machete and decapitated him after Greniger, Thoresen's girlfriend, accused Haiman of raping her.

Initially, Thoresen was charged with second-degree murder, and Greniger was charged as an accomplice. This week's indictment supersedes the previous charges.

Thoresen and Greniger are expected to be in court on Friday. If convicted of the first-degree murder charges, both face life in prison.
