St. Paul Named 1 Of The Top 20 Best Halloween Cities

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Anoka, the Halloween Capitol of the World, was nowhere to be seen on a recent list highlighting the best cities to celebrate the spooky holiday this year.

The list, produced by the financial website WalletHub, ranked 100 American cities on a number of factors, mainly their "trick-or-treat friendliness," the accessibility of Halloween parties and activities, and the Halloween weather forecast.

The only Minnesota city to land in the top 20 was St. Paul, which scored decently in trick-or-treat friendliness and Halloween weather categories. Minneapolis came in at No. 21.

At the top of the list was Santa Ana, California, the most trick-or-treat friendly community in the world, according to WalletHub, which looked at factors such as kid population, crime rate and walking score in determining its trick-or-treat friendly metric.

Americans are projected to spend a whopping $8.3 billion on Halloween-related items this year, with the average individual spending $82, WalletHub says.

Nearly 70 percent of Americans say they will celebrate Halloween, and even more (72 percent) say they will hand out candy to trick-or-treaters.

Historically, Anoka earned its Halloween cred by being the first place in the U.S. to hold a citywide Halloween celebration in 1920.
