Vigil Held For Victims Of Minneapolis Gun Violence

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Community members gathered Sunday afternoon to address a violent few days in Minneapolis.

Three people died in separate shootings over the last three days and police are still looking to make arrests in all the cases.

At 1:30 p.m., the community on the city's north side will gather in prayer at Shiloh Temple International Ministries. Then, at 3 p.m., there will be a vigil at 35th and Penn avenues for the three people who lost their lives to the violence.

On Thursday, police found 50-year-old Michael Whitelaw shot to death inside his apartment on Glenwood Avenue.

A day later, another deadly shooting at 36th and Queen avenues north left Dana Logan dead inside her car.

Police are also investigating a shooting at 48th and Bryant avenues north where someone shot and killed a man inside his car.

Sa'Lesha Beeks, the daughter of Birdell Beeks, who was fatally shot in May, knows the grief caused by gun violence.

She's started a change.org petition to ask the city of Minneapolis and police department to install cameras on ShotSpotters.

"I think the shot spotters are fine, although these criminals aren't staying around to wait until cops pull up," Beeks said. "They're gone by the time they get there, so having these cameras would give them an extra eye."

Birdell Beeks' murder remains unsolved.
