Iowa Trump Supporter Accused Of Voting Twice

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – As Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has raised concerns that the general election could be "rigged," one of his Iowa supporters is accused of trying to vote for him more than once.

Terri Rote, of Des Moines, is charged with election misconduct, Iowa Public Radio reports. The registered Republican said she was afraid her first ballot would be a changed to a vote for Democrat Hillary Clinton.

"I wasn't planning on [voting] twice, it was spur of the moment," Rote told the radio station. "The polls are rigged."

The Des Moines Register reports that Rote is accused of casting an early ballot at the Polk County Election Office and another at a satellite polling place in Des Moines.

She was one of three voter fraud suspects reported to Iowa authorities last week. Rote was the only one arrested.

On Friday, she posted a $5,000 bond and was released from jail. If convicted, the 55-year-old faces a maximum sentence of 5 years in prison.

The county auditor told the newspaper that it was the first time in 12 years that he can remember having to report potential voter fraud.

Rote is slated to be in court on Nov. 7, the day before Election Day.
