Fire At Vacant Building In Downtown St. Paul Under Investigation

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Officials are investigating a fire that left a vacant building in downtown St. Paul damaged.

According to St. Paul fire officials, around 3:30 a.m. crews responded to a call of a fire at 70 4th Street West in downtown St. Paul.

Upon arrival, crews saw flames by the front door of what used to be the Ramsey County West Building, originally the West Publishing building. It has stood empty for many years.

Firefighters were not able to go inside, as it was unsafe since the building was undergoing demolition. Crews fought the fire from outside and were able to quell the flames.

One person was injured, but the extent of the injuries is unknown.

Crews believe the cause of the fire was suspicious. It is currently under investigation.
