Rise Bagel To Open In North Loop

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Bagel lovers, rejoice! The sisters who started Rise Bagel Co., an organic bagel bakery that had been selling only at farmers markets, will soon open a storefront location in the North Loop neighborhood of Minneapolis.

Jen and Kate Lloyd started Rise Bagel in 2014 selling at Kingfield and Fulton Farmers Markets. Their story was profiled in DeRusha Eats in that same year.

The North Loop location will be near Smack Shack restaurant at 530 North Third Street, and is expected to open in "early 2017," according to the sisters.

"It is time to take this next step and make our dream a full-time reality," said Kate Lloyd, co-founder of Rise Bagel Co. "We are excited to establish roots in the North Loop neighborhood and become a daily destination for those who seek an elevated bagel experience."

Rise is known for using organic ingredients. The bagels are made-from-scratch, boiled, topped on both sides and then baked on wooden boards. They're well-known for the "Everything Bagel," a bagel more traditional of New York City bagel bakeries than the larger, doughier bagels more common in the Twin Cities.

Rise will occupy space on the first floor of a five-story building that originally housed a candy factory operated by Roach Tisdale. Today it's owned by Schafer Richardson and is home to a mix of commercial tenants.

According to the Lloyd sisters, Rise will continue baking during the build-out. Bagels will be available at the Wedge Co-op Nov. 6 and at Lowry Hill Meats Nov. 19. For more info, click here.
