Richfield Artist Wins 2017 Walleye Stamp Contest

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A Richfield artist's walleye painting will be featured on the 2017 walleye stamp.

Timothy Turenne won the 2017 Minnesota Walleye Stamp contest with his painting of a walleye foraging on minnows, the Department of Natural Resources announced.

Turenne previously won the contest in 2010. This year, he won all four state stamp contests he entered.

"This is an incredible feat to win all these contests in one year," fisheries program consultant Neil Vanderbosch said.

The stamp is not required to fish or keep walleye. The voluntary validation costs $5, and purchasers will be sent a pictorial stamp for an extra 75 cents. A pictorial collectible stamp without the validation is available for $5.75.

Revenue from the stamp is sued to purchase walleye for stocking Minnesota's lakes.
