Hennepin Co. Officials Seize Record Amount Of Fentanyl In Drug Bust

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Officials in Hennepin County made a record drug bust Thursday, seizing a variety of illicit materials.

According to the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, the Bloomington Police Department and the Hennepin County Violent Offender Task Force seized 2,754 milliliters of fentanyl, marijuana illegal prescription pills and several firearms.

Officials said this seizure marks the largest amount of fentanyl confiscated in the state's history. The fentanyl is worth an estimated $275,000, according to officials.

"Working together, our agencies can achieve success in preventing overdose deaths from opioids like fentanyl and heroin," Sheriff Rich Stanek said. "If you want to deal this poison in Hennepin County, we have a place for you in the jail."

Fentanyl, a potent synthetic opioid, is often used as a substitute for heroin.

The investigation is ongoing.
