Couple Charged In Fatal Shooting In North Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Two people have been charged with murder in fatal shooting of a man in north Minneapolis Thursday.

Quintel Flowers, 25, and Nicole Rantala, 32, were both charged with intentional second degree murder in the death of 26-year-old Larry Flowers.

According to the criminal complaint, police found Larry Flowers dead from multiple gunshot wounds in front of 902 Broadway Avenue West about 11 a.m. Thursday.

Witnesses saw Quintel and Larry Flowers struggling near a car. Larry Flowers broke free and ran, but Quintel Flowers ran after him and fired shots until Larry dropped to the ground, the complaint states.

Rantala told police Quintel planned to take drugs and money from Larry because Larry had shorted Quintel the previous week. She said she was driving when they picked up Larry. Quintel pulled out his handgun, she said, and ordered Larry to hand over his drugs and money.

According to Rantala, Larry Flowers tried to take the gun away, then jumped out of the car.

Larry and Quintel Flowers are not related.

Rantala and Quintel have a child together. They are expected to make their first court appearance Tuesday.
