Minnesotans Listed As Being The Best Drivers In The U.S.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – While Minnesotans are still working on the zipper merge, they can boast that, according to a new ranking, they remain the best drivers in the United States.

For the third year in a row, CarInsuranceComparison.com has placed Minnesota on the bottom of its Worst Drivers By State list.

The website reports that it compiled its list using information from the National Highway Traffic Administration, specifically looking at the causes of fatal accidents.

Each state was ranked according to data in precise categories, such as fatalities per 100 million miles traveled, failure to obey the traffic rules, drunk driving, speeding, and careless driving.

Every state was then given a final numerical score, with 1 being the worst and 51 being the best.

Minnesota (No. 51) scored best in the categories of careless driving and fatalities per 100 million miles traveled. The state's worst score came in the speeding category.

The states that tied for the No. 1 spot were Texas, which scored low in every category, and Louisiana, which got the worst marks in the "failure to obey" metric.

Rounding out the top five on the worst drivers list were South Carolina, North Dakota and Delaware.

Wisconsin was ranked at No. 17.
