Tap Talk: Boom Island Releases Kriek – Limited Sour Cherry
The holidays are coming early at Boom Island Brewing Company!
On Friday afternoon, the Minneapolis brewery will release its latest beer in the Spontaneous Series – the Kriek.
The Spontaneous Series is a collection of beers brewed and fermented using nontraditional methods.
The Kriek's spontaneous characteristic is its fermentation process.
The sour beer is dry, nutty and a bit funky. After being brewed, it's mixed with southern Minnesota cherries – the pit and all – and placed in a red wine barrel. Then it's aged for a year. It comes out a light red color with an effervescent finish.
Boom Island will release the beer on tap beginning at 4 p.m.
Twenty cases of 750 ml bottles will be available for purchase at the brewery, and a small number of 375 ml bottles will be made available in the store.
