Community Meeting With Law Enforcement Cut Short When Tempers Flare

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – An opportunity for community members to engage with  local law enforcement was cut short Saturday night.

The meeting was held at AME Wayman Church in north Minneapolis. It was planned with the purpose to give people the opportunity to speak and ask questions of a panel including members of the Minneapolis Police Department, Minnesota's human rights commissioner and the Hennepin County Attorney.

One group in particular was with Hennepin County's decision not to bring charges against the officers who shot and killed Jamar Clark in November of last year.

Then, others in the crowd were not given the opportunity to ask questions when arguments grew too heated.

"I was hoping for a positive outcome and some type of community engagement. I was thinking that's what this was about. I didn't know it was going to be heated but, you know, it was a waste of time I think," John Thompson of St. Paul said.

The meeting ended barely an hour after it began and 90 minutes before it was supposed to. There has been no word on if or when it will be rescheduled.
