Patrol: 500+ Crashes On Snowy Metro Roads

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The State Patrol says that since the snow started falling Saturday afternoon on the Twin Cities metro, there've been more than 500 crashes and 140 spinouts on the snow-packed highways and city streets.

Troopers tweeted at 9 a.m. Sunday that in a period of 24 hours since the snow began there were 507 crashes in the metro and 141 spinouts. In those incidents, 53 people suffered injuries, although none were serious or fatal.

Statewide, the numbers were only slightly higher, totaling 600 crashes and 227 spinouts. Again, none of the incidents involved fatalities or serious injuries.

The winter storm has dumped over 8 inches of snow in southern Minnesota, with nearly that much falling in the Twin Cities metro.

Snow emergencies were declared in Minneapolis and St. Paul, as well as several Twin Cities suburbs.

The snow is expected to taper off early Sunday afternoon.
