Firefighters were called to the 160 block of West Stevens Street at about 6 a.m. on a report of a garage fire. The garage was fully engulfed by the time they arrived, and had spread to the attached house.

St. Paul Fire Marshal Steve Zaccard says crews were able to stop the fire inside the house before it did too much damage.

"There were eight people living here at the time, kind of having a social gathering, a party at the time," Zaccard said. "It's still under investigation, but it's not suspicious, but it's looking more and more like it was the result of someone's careless smoking in the garage, and that's what started the garage on fire, with a car inside."

Everyone in the house was able to get out safely, and no one was injured.
