Woodbury Officer Suffers Significant Injuries After Squad Rear-Ended By Tow Truck

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Woodbury police officer is being hospitalized after his squad was rear ended by a tow truck early Friday morning.

According to Woodbury officials, the crash happened just before 2 a.m. on Interstate 494 at Tamarack Road. The officer was off the road on the median shoulder when a tow truck towing a vehicle struck the squad from behind.

The officer, identified as 30-year-old Bryan Wagner, was then taken to Regions Hospital where he's being treated for significant, but non-life threatening, injuries.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the 2017 Ford tow truck traveling on northbound I-494 when it drifted off the road and rear-ended the squad.

The tow truck driver is identified as 45-year-old Joshua Barnhill of Oakdale. He suffered non-life threatening injuries,but was not hospitalized.

"Woodbury Public Safety, Officer Wagner and his family appreciate the outpouring of support. The extent of Officer Wagner's injuries are still being determined. We will work with MN State Patrol to provide updates about the crash as information is available," Woodbury police said.

The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating the crash. Alcohol is not a factor in the crash.
