Man Arrested After SWAT Team Responds To West St. Paul Neighborhood

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities say a man was arrested early Friday morning after a SWAT team was called to a home in West St. Paul, where they found the suspect in the attic of an unattached garage.

The West St. Paul Police Department says the search for the man began with a request from the St. Paul Police Department, which sought to apprehend a criminal sexual conduct suspect.

The suspect, whom authorities did not name, was tracked to a home on the 1000 block of Humboldt Avenue, where he was believed to be hiding in a garage.

Officials requested a SWAT team, as the suspect was believed to be armed.

At first, officials tried to negotiate with the suspect. This went on for hours before officers used tear gas in an attempt to get the suspect out of the garage. He did not leave.

Officers found him hiding under insulation in the attic of an unattached garage. He was arrested without injuries to himself or the officers.

During the arrest, Humboldt Avenue was closed to drivers. The road has since been reopened.
