Police: 1 Dead, 1 Hospitalized In St. Paul Pedestrian Crash

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Police say a young man was killed and a woman was injured when they were struck by a vehicle in St. Paul Friday night.

It happened just before 6 p.m. at the intersection of McKnight Road North and Burns Avenue near the Maplewood border. The vehicle, carrying two adults and two juveniles, was traveling southbound on McKnight Road at the time of the crash.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, while the woman survived and was taken to Regions Hospital. Her condition is not known. Police say it is not clear if the victims knew each other, or if they were in a crosswalk when they were struck.

This marks the third pedestrian fatality in the Twin Cities in just two days.

"It's dark, it stays dark for a long period of time, it gets dark early, it gets dark into the morning hours, so we just need to look out for one another," St. Paul Police Public Information Officer Steve Linders. "We're doing our part to try to educate people and hopefully everybody just looks out for each other."

The driver of the car stopped and is cooperating. Right now, drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors, but testing will take place.

Last year, more than 140 pedestrians were hit by cars in the city of St. Paul. Three of those were fatal.
