Off-Duty Hopkins Police Officer Dies In Rogers Bicycle Crash

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Off-duty Hopkins police officer, Detective Kevin Hegyi, was killed after a bicycle and vehicle collided early in the morning on Aug. 4 in Rogers, police say. Rogers police responded to the serious motor accident just after midnight in the 22600 block of Industrial Boulevard, where the bicycling officer was found unconscious. Medical professionals declared him deceased around 1 a.m.

Officer Hegyi and a female driver were both traveling westbound on Industrial Boulevard at the time of the crash, police say, and the driver was cooperative. An investigation is ongoing.

Hopkins police say the department is grieving Hegyi's loss along with his family.
