St. Paul Police Investigate City's 3rd Homicide Of 2020

UPDATE: Police identified the victim Wednesday as St. Paul resident Larnell Brown, 42. No arrests have been made.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- St. Paul police say they're investigating the city's third homicide of 2020, which happened Tuesday evening near the METRO Green Line train.

Officers were called to the area of University Avenue West and Arundel Street in the North Frogtown neighborhood just after 4 p.m. after several reports of gunfire. They arrived to find a man lying in the middle of Arundel Street, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. An officer rendered aid to the victim, while another officer called for EMS services. The victim was brought to Regions Hospital, where he later died.

The brazen murder prompted a large law enforcement response, shutting down city blocks for hours. Police set up a perimeter in the area, and found several witnesses to interview. Members of the department's crime lab processed the scene, and are working on tracking down surveillance video footage in the area.

Investigators don't believe this shooting was random. This is the city's second homicide this year that involved gunfire. Nine people have been shot so far this year in the city.

The victim's identity has not be released pending the notification of his family. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner's office is working to determine his exact cause of death.

Anybody with information on this homicide is urged to call 651-266-5650, or 911.
