Puppy Shot In Snout, Left In St. Paul Portable Toilet

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Authorities say a puppy was shot inside a portable toilet at Marydale Park in St. Paul. Police say a man who called 911 at 3:21 a.m. Friday reported hearing gunshots at the park.

According to St. Paul police spokesman Sgt. Mike Ernster, the caller heard a dog yelp and saw a man leave a portable bathroom. He said officers found the four-to-five month old puppy and discovered it had been shot in the snout. Officers also checked the nearby area for additional victims, but found no one.

A nearby veterinary technician from a 24-hour clinic assisted police and brought the dog in for treatment. He is a male mixed Labrador retriever.

The technician described the dog as "a very wiggly, happy puppy and the only time [they] could get him to hold still was in the kennel."

He was moved to the care of St. Paul Animal Control. At this point, it is unknown if the dog belongs to anyone.

The case is under investigation, and no arrests have been made at this point.
