Daily Guide To The State Fair: Friday, Aug. 24, 2018

The second day of the Minnesota State Fair is Governor's Fire Prevention Day. You can catch fire safety and life-saving activities throughout the fairgrounds, including at Dan Patch Park, Expo Place and DNR Park.

The Governor's Council on Fire Prevention and Control, firefighters from around the state and a pipe and drum team will lead the fair's flag-raising ceremony at Leinie Lodge Bandshell at 10 a.m. Gov. Mark Dayton will also give a fire prevention address at Dan Patch Park beginning at 11:30 a.m.

To continue the fire prevention theme, Smokey Bear and his friends will talk about how fire affects their lives and homes in the forest during a puppet show at the DNR Volunteer Outdoor Stage. This interactive and fun show is recommended for children ages 3-6. There will be three puppet shows throughout the day at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Another event to check out on Friday, which will be happening each day at the fair, is live butter sculpting. Yes, you read that correctly. Princess Kay and court will have their likeness carved into a 90-pound block of butter by a live sculptor. One sculpture is created each day while the princesses and sculptor rotate in a display cooler and answer questions from the audience. The sculpting will take place from 9:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. each day between Aug. 23 and Sept. 3.

And don't forget to come on down to the WCCO booth at the fair, located at the corner of Carnes and Nelson, to spin the "Price is Right" wheel at 9 a.m.!
