Ask An Expert: Hottest Trends In Minnesota This Spring

"Rather than following seasonal trends so literally, let them inspire and guide your personal style," says the bold and individualistic stylist, Davee Ek. In staying true to her statement, Davee describes five trends this spring and creates what she calls "reinventions of wardrobe staples and classics for the spring season that are easier to incorporate into your everyday style." Ek exudes confidence in herself and her knack for style. Unafraid of mixing men's and women's articles in a single look, Davee inspires people to break free from the bonds of worn-out fashion edicts and discover themselves. She does this as a blogger and a stylist. Vita.mn listed this fashionista as number two on best fashion blogs in 2013 and national blog Style Blazer recognized Davee Ek as Most Stylish in Minnesota 2014. Ms. Ek's influence on style can be seen on numerous fashion websites such as the City Pages What To Where blog, the Mall of America 2014 Back To School Look Book, the TRENDHUNTER and TheFLYOVER fashion website, among others.

Trend One: The Trench Coat

"Replace your puffy winter coat with a spring classic – the trench coat. If you want to be more adventurous with this spring trend, invest in a reinvented trench, like a suede variation or one with a less form-fitting silhouette (think cocoon coat)."

Trend Two: The It Accessory

"A subtle way to change up your style is adding new accessories into the mix. My favorite is the O-ring barrette seen on the Celine runway – it's chic, minimalistic and easily dresses up any outfit. Because it would be ridiculous to pay hundreds of dollars for a barrette, I've found a cheaper option at Nordstrom."

Trend Three: The Sneakers That Aren't Just For The Gym

"I don't care what they say, but sporty is here to stay. Last year, we saw the emergence of Nike Airmaxes and New Balances, but for a different take on this trend, maybe switch over to some black Adidas Sambas. Pair with jeans, slouchy tee and structured blazer or billowy dresses and skirts. Top off with statement earrings for a feminine touch."

Trend Four: The (Colorful) It Bag

"In place of your black go-to tote bag, opt for a pop of color by investing in a bag in a bright hue or outrageous print. This is an especially easy way to update your spring wardrobe if you're less apt to try bolder prints/colors in your actual clothing choices. I like the idea of a classic purse such as a bucket bag in a bright blue or tribal print."

Trend Five: The Great Gams

"On the beauty side of things, it's always on trend to take care of your skin, but in preparation of the warmer months to come, the focus is on our legs since you'll be baring them in spring dresses and shorts soon. I like to steal from the boys when it comes to style – so bath products are no exception. The boys over at Pharmacie introduced me to Imperial's Glycerin Shave soap. Its smoothing and moisturizing properties leave my legs silky smooth. Follow the shave with Weleda Wild Rose Body Oil to lock in moisture and maintain smoothness."
