Best Places To Get Your Classical Music Fix In Minnesota

The Minnesota Sinfonia and the Minneapolis Pops Orchestra will be busy filling a classical music void this summer with popular performances for all. These two very fine professional orchestras will tailor each performance to audiences of children, families or seniors. Check the list below for a concert that fits your taste.

Professional musicians of the Minnesota Sinfonia will present a program of light classical melodies with a touch of jazz and show tunes. The Minnesota Sinfonia is also presenting Northside Children's Concert at Farwell Park on July 26, 2013 at a time to be announced.

Professional musicians of the Minnesota Sinfonia will be performing for audiences at Roseville Central Park in late June. See and hear the Minnesota Sinfonia at additional shows at Como Park Lakeside Pavilion on June 29, 2013 at 7:30 p.m., Performance Pavilion at Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park on July 11, 2013 at 7p.m. and Caponi Art Park in 
Eagan on July 23, 2013 at 7 p.m.

The Minneapolis Pops Orchestra, founded in 1949, boasts 45 professional musicians, either freelance or full-time members of Minnesota performing groups. Music director Jere Lantz serves as conductor and host for the concerts. Lantz has been bringing a greater awareness of music to a broad spectrum of listeners for 27 years this season. The season starts June 29 with a special Pops Preview Potpourri at the Lake Harriet Bandshell. All concerts are weekends at the Lake Harriet Bandshell with one exception. South Minneapolis residents can look forward to a special Community Concert at Elliot Park on July 23, 2013 at 6:30 p.m.

Dates: July 2, 9, 17 and 22 at 10:30 a.m.

This popular event entertained 2,700 people in 2012. Patrons and groups seek out reservations months in advance for 350 seats each performance. Event organizers save an additional 150 seats for walk-ins but get there early because this event sells out. Enjoy complimentary beverages, pastries and door prizes.

As one of three professional orchestras in the Twin Cities, the Minnesota Sinfonia dedicates itself to meeting the musical and educational needs of the citizens of Minnesota. Help recognize the Junior Winner (age 14) and Senior Winner (up to age 19) of the Young Artist Competition hosted last April at St. Thomas. The capstone event will be 25 local student musicians and the Minnesota Sinfonia playing an appropriately selected triumphal Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 5.
